Calling all Apple fanatics: Have you managed to get your hands on the iPhone 7 yet? If you have then listen up, and if you haven’t don’t delay any longer. Urban Armor Gear‘s new iPhone 7 range has just launched in our online store, and trust us on this: you won’t want to miss out.

Known for their instantly recognizable military-inspired designs, UAG has consistently been providing the smartphone market with durable and resilient cases for years, and their new range is no exception.

UAG’s patented composite design combines a hard outer shell with a soft impact resistant core, while the unique shape of their cases also provides structural rigidity. Each case gives full access to all ports and a soft rubberized screen surround and rear skid pads provide 360 degree protection from scratches and abrasions.

But if you’re still feeling skeptical, all of UAG’s cases have also passed the military drop-test standards, so you know your iPhone 7 is in safe hands.

Our favourite is the UAG Trooper case that lets your store your bank cards inside it! Prices for the UAG cases start at €39.99, and you can view the full range here.

Everything that was announced at the Apple Event…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Missed the Apple Event yesterday? Here’s a rundown of every new product that was announced along with all you need to know…

Apple TV

First up came the announcement of a newly revamped Apple TV streaming service which will feature a redesigned operating system called tvOS. The new service will also come loaded with Siri which will allow you to make specific requests such as “show me the Modern Family episode with Edward Norton in it.” Not only that, but you’ll also be able to fast forward or rewind a specific scene simply by asking Siri to do so. The Apple TV will be available in 32gb and 64gb models with a starting price between €150-200.

iPad Pro

Next up was the much-rumoured iPad Pro, a new large iPad featuring a 12.9 inch retina display that will be specifically targeted at business users. The iPad Pro will come with a four speaker audio system, an 8MP iSight camera and 10 hours of battery life. An accompanying stylus called the Apple Pencil was also launched. The iPad Pro will be available in three colours: silver, gold, and space gray and will cost between €800-€1,100.

iPhone 6S and 6S Plus

Finally came the much-anticipated announcement of the iPhone 6S/6S Plus, two new upgraded iPhone models. The new phones have the same screen size as current iPhone 6 models but feature a new screen control system called 3D touch’. Similar to force touch on the Apple Watch, 3D touch will allow users to access different functions depending on how much touch pressure is being applied to the screen. The new iPhones will also have an improved 12 MP camera as well as a 5MP front-facing camera dubbed the ‘selfie camera’. The cameras will come with 4K video resolution and a feature called ‘live photos’ which captures 3 seconds of audio recording and video footage each time a photo is taken. With a 64-bit processor, the new iPhones are expected to be 70 per cent faster than previous iPhones and they’re also made from tougher metal to avoid any future ‘bendgates’. That’s not all as the iPhone will now also be available in a brand new colour: rose gold. Prices for the iPhone 6S start at €700 while the iPhone 6S Plus will cost up from €800.

Now we don’t know about you, but new iPhones and iPads aside, what we really would have liked to see is something to address the charger problem. Maybe next year?

Turn Back Time: 5 Of Our Favourite Flip Phones

Standard

800px-Motorola_V300

While the evolution of smartphones and touchscreens marked the start of something new, it also signaled the end of something else: flip-phones. Gone were the days when you could terminate a call by slamming your phone shut whenever you became exasperated by the person on the other end. Though some were sad for a while, just like any new technology, people learned to adapt. And so, very quickly, flip phones became a thing of the past.

Fast forward to 2015 and it looks like they could be about to make a comeback. Asian telecommunications company LG, has just announced plans to release a new flip-phone model entitled the Gentle, which will run on the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop software.

In honour of this news, we’ve taken a trip down memory lane to revisit 5 of our favourite flip-phones:

Motorola V550

motorola v550

This sturdy little flip-phone came packed with a camera, mp3 player, downloadable screensavers and more! We loved the clamshell design and vibrant blue finish, and the battery lasted way longer than our iPhone!. Sigh.

Nokia 7373nokia 7373

The 7373 from Nokia wasn’t so much a phone as it was a fashion statement. Seriously, what girl could resist that gorgeous pink and cream floral design? Aesthetics aside, the phone also came with a camera, a built in stereo radio, 8mb of internal memory, and an SD card with an additional 2mb of storage.

Sony Ericsson W300i

Before Androids and iPhones, Sony Ericsson was viewed by many as the go-to phone manufacturer. Known for their high quality music players and impressive battery life, any self-respecting “cool kid” owned a Sony Ericsson phone. The company’s popular W300i flip-phone featured bluetooth, a phone book that could store up to 1,000 contacts, as well as a camera, and best of all, an mp3 player that could read songs in MP3 and MP4 formats.

Motorola  V3 Razr

motorola razr v3

While this flip phone came in a variety of colours, the hot pink version was another favourite among girls. When it was initially released in 2004, this slick and stylish model had been exclusively marketed as a fashion phone. However, within a year, the price was lowered and by July 2006, the phone had sold over 50 million units. To this day, the Motorola V3 remains the best selling clamshell phone, selling more than 130 million units during its four year run.

LG VX8100

lg_vx8100_1_1

This sleek little phone from LG had bluetooth, a megapixel camera, loud stereo speakers, and an mp3 player. While it may not have been the best selling flip phone of all time, we loved its bold turquoise colour and the fact that the volume controls were on the front!

What was your favourite flip-phone? Let us know in the comments below!.

Standard

apple-inc-508812_640

Apple held its annual World Wide Developer’s Conference in San Francisco yesterday, and as usual the company that never does anything by halves, announced a whole host of new features that are coming our way.

Here’s a breakdown of everything that Apple announced:

Apple Music

Firstly, Apple are launching a new music streaming service called Apple Music that is set to rival Spotify. With Apple Music, users will be able to stream one of 30 million songs from within the Apple music library which will feature music from signed and unsigned artists. The streaming service is set to launch later this month and will be free for the first three months. Thereafter, the cost of using the service will be €10 a month, or €15 a month for up to six family members.

OS X El Capitan

Apple are rolling out a new operating system for the Mac entitled El Capitan. New features include improved Spotlight search, shake to enlarge the mouse cursor and a new way to pin websites to Safari. The browser will also include a speaker icon on the URL bar which will allow users to mute music coming from any opened tabs. El Capitan will also give users the ability to split their screen into multi-tasking windows by pressing down on the maximise button and dragging left or right.  The browser will also come with built-in metal graphics technology which is set to enhance a user’s gaming experience.

iOS 9

With iOS 9, Siri is becoming smarter and more in tune to your user behaviour. For example, if you usually scroll through Twitter first thing in the morning, Siri will be able to detect this and automatically open that app for you.

iOS 9 will come with improved battery life(+1 hour) and a new battery saving mode that will allow users to shut down non-essential features to enhance their iPhone’s battery by an extra three hours.

iOs 9 is also adding built-in trackpad to iPads which can be accessed by putting two fingers on the keyboard.

Apple Pay will officially launch in the UK and Northern Ireland in July. According to Apple, it will be compatible with nearly 70 percent of all UK debit and credit cards and you’ll be able to use it in Boots, Costa, Starbucks, KFC, New Look, Marks and Spencers, Mc Donald’s and more.

Lastly, iOS 9 will include a News app which will feature personalised news content that will automatically update anytime the user opens the app

Perhaps most importantly, iOS 9 will only require 1.3gb to install, a huge drop from iOS8’s required space of 4.48gb.

Watch OS

Watch OS is the newly improved operating system for the Apple Watch. Apps will now be able to access the microphone and accelerometer, play audio through the speakers, and even utilise the Digital Crown. HomeKit will also be made available on the Apple Watch via Siri.  A newly added watch face function called “Time Travel” will allow users to skip backward and forward to view past and upcoming events.Watch OS will also feature new watch faces, including several than can customise the watch face using a single photo or an updating photo album.

So there you have it. That’s all the main features that we can expect from Apple in the near future. Which announcement was your favourite?

Nokia celebrates 150 years

Standard

Nokia evolucion Finnish telecommunications company Nokia celebrated its 150th birthday this week. The company, which was founded by mining engineer Fredrick Idestam and his friend Leo Mechelin in 1865, originally began as a ground wood pulp mill before eventually switching to telecommunications in the 1960’s. In 2000, Nokia launched the 3310 mobile phone which proved to be very popular, selling 126 million units worldwide. This success was quickly followed up with the Nokia 1110 launched in 2003, which shipped over 200 million units, becoming the best selling mobile phone of all time. Prior to being overshadowed by Apple, Nokia was once recognised as the world’s largest mobile phones vendor. In September 2013, Microsoft announced that it would acquire Nokia’s mobile phone business as part of a deal worth €5.44 billion. Microsoft subsequently decided to drop the Nokia name, stating that all future mobile phones would be produced under the name “Microsoft Lumia”. In 2014, Nokia began licensing product designs and technologies to third part manufacturers in an attempt to maintain a continued presence for the Nokia brand in the consumer electronics market. On the 15th of April 2015, Nokia announced that it would acquire French telecommunications equipment company Alcatel-Lucent for €15.6 billion. Nowadays, Nokia specialises in navigation, mapping, and network technologies. Take at look at some of Nokia’s most notable mobile phones below. Happy Birthday Nokia!

Youtube launches music subscription service

Standard

Google’s video sharing website Youtube has launched a paid monthly subscription service called Youtube Music Key.

Similar to Spotify, the service allows users to stream unlimited ad-free music videos for a fee of $7.99(€6.41) a month. Users will also be able to download videos and watch them while offline.

The monthly fee also comes with a subscription to Google Play Music.

At the moment, subscription is by invitation only but we love the “sound” of this one!

To celebrate, here’s a music video that we’re really enjoying at the moment:
