Apple’s App Store hits the 50 billion downloads mark.

Standard

App_StoreTech giant, Apple has revealed that it’s App Store has sold its 50 billionth app.

The milestone was reach by Brandon Ashmore from Ohio in the US – who downloaded ‘Say the Same Thing by Space Inch’.

Along with the prestigious bragging rights, Ashmore also bags a cool $10,000 App Store gift card (I’d prefer the cash, but that’s just me!).

The 50 people who downloaded apps right after the 50 billion mark are set to receive a gift card worth $500 (not too shabby,  but again…I’d prefer the cash!).

The colossal figure represents 50 billion unique downloads, keeping Apple a couple of steps ahead of rival, Google who announced their download tally stands at 48 billion.

According to Apple, its customers have been downloading like there’s no tomorrow with more than 800 apps per second bought at a rate of over 2 billion apps per month.

Apple’s App Store has grown from a mere 500 apps, from when it opened in July 2008, to over 850,000 apps today.
